Here at Moose Lake Homesteading we strive to give our customers the true farm-to-table experience. All our animals are born and raised on the farm, ensuring happy, healthy animals from start to finish. All of our meat products are processed at a local Government inspected abattoir
Berkshire Pigs
Our Berkshire pork is raised outdoors, minimizing disease pressure that often occurs in closed areas. They are raised without the use of antibiotics and hormones. They are fed a diet consisting largely of hay and vegetation, and are supplemented on the side with grain that has not been sprayed at harvest. Our pigs are born on the farm and stay with us from start to finish, also reducing risk of disease and eliminating the need for vaccines.
Rideau Lamb
Our Rideau Lamb is raised outdoors, minimizing disease pressure that often occurs in closed areas. They are raised without the use of antibiotics and hormones. They are raised on pasture, with free access to whole, non-desiccated grain. Our sheep are born on the farm and stay with us from start to finish. This also reduces risk of disease, and eliminates the need for vaccines.
Garlic
Our home grown garlic is grown without the use of pesticides and chemicals. Our weeds are hand picked, and our garlic is fertilized using natural compost. When our garlic is pulled in the fall, the dirt is brushed off, and it is hung upside down on racks to ensure proper, naturally dried garlic. Once dry, we trim the roots and the stem and package it for selling. Our garlic is not bleached or sprayed with preservatives of any kind. Our main varieties are Russian Red, Music, and German White, but we do experiment with some other varieties as well.
Creams & Soaps
All of our products are handcrafted in small batches on the farm. Crafted with a base consisting mainly of tallow or lard sourced from our own animals, these bars and creams are both gentle, and nourishing for your skin. Our products are scented using essential oils, this allows for a natural fragrance without sacrificing the quality of our products
Trees, Shrubs & Perennials
We have decided to bring in some trees and perennials. We sold our greenhouse in Clive, but still have a love for all things growing!
When making a decision on the trees, the lower the zone the hardier the tree. There are a couple zone 4 trees in the mix, they require a special spot that has a warmer microclimate. If you have any questions please don't hesitate to reach out!
